We've made a slight modification to our upload form. You will notice that the "Sequenced By" field is gone entirely now. This is to enforce a rule change made some time ago that you could only submit files that you have created. This data is now copied directly from the "Your name" field instead.
The form has (finally) been updated to reflect this change, as have the scripts that create the new-files indexes.
Incidentally, at nearly 12 years of age, VGMusic.com is likely one of the oldest sites on the web that consists entirely of user-submitted content.
Edit: There was a slight bug with some code that should have been removed some time ago. It should be fixed now.

MAGFest is a four-day gaming and music festival, back for its seventh iteration! Featuring video gaming at large, video game concerts and jam sessions, video game movies and cartoons, tournaments, vendors, and much more. Some video game special guests from both the fan and industry sectors will also be attending - I can confirm that Richard Jacques (best known for scoring the music for Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast) and Howard Drossin (Sonic the Hedgehog 3) will be there, amongst other well-known names. The event is also popular within the sphere of video game music & arrangement communities, and serves as a great conglomeration point for meeting people around the scene.
The event will be taking place at the Hilton Mark Center, Alexandria, Virginia, starting on the first weekend of January 2009 (from the 1st-4th). The whole-weekend entry is $40 in advance on the website or $45 at the door (and group discounts are available). Rooms are $99/night in the convention hotel, and parking's only a dollar!
For more details and preregistration, visit the MAGFest website here.

Just so no one gets alarmed that we're down again, our site will be down on the morning of Sunday, August 3rd sometime between EDT 1:00am and 6:00am / UTC 5:00am and 10:00am / PDT 10:00pm August 2 and 3:00am August 3rd.
We do not know if the site will be down the entire length of time, only that there is some network infrastructure work being done at the data center.

Happy Independence Day to our visitors from the USA. Luigi P has put together a midi called The Star Spangled NES. Take a listen! He describes it as:
I have arranged a MIDI medley of three popular patriotic tunes (The Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, and God Bless America) for the NES: two square-wave synthesizer notes, one triangle-wave note, and various NES-like percussion. The first is done in three-part voice leading with no percussion, and is not intended to copy any particular NES theme, but America the Beautiful is done in the style of the title theme from "The Legend of Zelda" and God Bless America has been melded with "Super Mario Bros." overworld!

I'm testing out a free service called Pledgie that shows a running count of contributions/donations made to the website. See the Pledgie icon on the front page of the website...

I tried testing it with a $1.00 donation, but it won't let me donate back to my own paypal account.
Once the first donation is made, it should show something like "$10.42 Raised!" on the button automatically.
Generally, I update the graph on the donations page manually. I just updated that to use gnuplot. Ideally, I'd have a script pull my paypal balance automatically, but they don't let small account holders do that. So I'm trying Pledgie instead.

The server has been moved to a new location, but DNS hasn't been updated yet. in fact, I'm not sure how long it will take DNS to update.
Hopefully, the server will remain up from this point on.
Update: DNS appears to have been updated. Now that all this is over and done with, things should return to the normal routine.
