Sony Resurgent In Weakened Japanese Chart
After a significant period of domination by the Nintendo DS, the new weekly Japanese sales charts features a top ten dominated by titles for Sony formats. However, as Japan prepares for the Golden Week series of holidays at the end of the month, sales have been depressed across the board.
The chart is led by the latest Naruto anime-licensed game on the PlayStation 2, Naruto Shippuuden: Narutimate Accel although it failed to debut with the minimum 100,000 unit sales expected of a number one title in Japan.
The second highest selling game of the week is a PSP conversion of PlayStation 2 hit Mobile Suit Gundam Seed: Rengou vs. Z.A.F.T. , with almost 59,000 unit sales.
The other new entry of the week is also a PSP title, and the second baseball title from Konami in the top ten. However, while Pro Baseball Spirits 4 on PlayStation 2 moved up three places to number four, the aforementioned Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball Portable 2 registered less than 30,000 sales.
However, in the rest of the chart Nintendo remains dominant, with only one PlayStation 3 title in the top thirty (Pro Baseball Spirits 4 at number twenty-three), no Xbox 360 titles and only one additional PSP title (Monster Hunter Portable 2nd at number sixteen).
